Slate Auto unveils affordable $25,000 electric pickup truck

Slate Auto has made a bold entrance into the electric vehicle market by unveiling an affordable electric pickup truck priced at just $25,000. This move is significant in a landscape where electric trucks are often priced much higher, making them less accessible to the average consumer. With this new model, Slate Auto aims to bring electric mobility to a wider audience, especially those who need a practical, budget-friendly work vehicle.

The truck is built with simplicity and functionality in mind. It features a minimalistic interior with essential components like manual windows, a smartphone mount replacing a traditional infotainment system, and basic safety features such as emergency braking and multiple airbags. This focus on essentials helps keep production costs low while still delivering a capable and reliable vehicle.

Performance-wise, the pickup is powered by a single electric motor located at the rear, generating 201 horsepower. Buyers can choose between two battery options: a 52.7 kWh battery offering around 150 miles of driving range, or a larger 84.3 kWh battery providing up to 240 miles. These choices cater to different needs, whether for short daily commutes or longer work trips.

One of the standout elements of Slate Auto’s design is its modular flexibility. The pickup can be customized with over 100 add-on accessories, allowing owners to transform it into different body styles such as a five-seater SUV or a fastback crossover. This DIY approach to vehicle customization adds a layer of personalization that is rarely seen in the electric truck segment.

Production is expected to begin by late 2026, with the company focusing on cost-effective manufacturing methods to maintain the affordable price point. By limiting paint colors and simplifying the assembly process, Slate Auto ensures that the savings are passed directly to consumers. Pre-orders are now open with a small, refundable deposit, making it easy for interested buyers to reserve their spot.

Slate Auto’s introduction of this $25,000 electric pickup could reshape the market by showing that electric trucks don’t have to be a luxury product. It offers a practical solution for everyday drivers looking to transition to electric without breaking the bank.
